About Us

An African conservation organisation, headquartered in Cameroon, connecting science, innovation and grassroots action to protect ecosystems and strengthen livelihoods.

Who we are

Science Into Practical Action

Biodiversity Action is an African organisation, headquartered in Cameroon, founded in response to accelerating environmental change. The organization works to transform scientific knowledge into practical solutions, strengthen community stewardship of natural resources, and promote responsible development pathways that respect ecological limits.

We connect science, innovation and grassroots action — because the evidence that shapes good conservation policy is only useful if the communities living alongside biodiversity have a stake in acting on it.

Mission

To strengthen biodiversity conservation and community resilience through scientific research, inclusive partnerships, environmental education, sustainable enterprise development, and responsible digital innovation.

Vision

A future where biodiversity conservation is embedded in everyday decision-making, ensuring human well-being while maintaining ecological integrity for generations to come.

How we work

Six Commitments

We design programmes as connected systems, so that research, livelihoods, education, restoration and governance reinforce one another rather than running in parallel.

01
Evidence-based decision-making

Every intervention starts from data we or our partners have collected and can defend.

02
Community co-ownership

Programmes are designed with the communities who live alongside the biodiversity they protect.

03
Environmental integrity

Ecological limits define what counts as an acceptable outcome, not the other way round.

04
Economic sustainability

Conservation that competes with livelihoods does not last. We build the two together.

05
Equity and inclusion

Youth and women are central to conservation decision-making, not consulted after the fact.

06
Institutional accountability

Results are measured, reported and open to scrutiny by partners and communities alike.

Context

Why Our Work Matters

Cameroon — where our headquarters sit — holds exceptional biodiversity across rainforests, highlands, savannahs, freshwater systems, mangroves and coastal habitats, and the same pressures run right across the continent.

These ecosystems face growing pressure from land-use change, wildlife trafficking, weak governance and climate variability. Biodiversity Action responds with an integrated approach that connects biodiversity protection, livelihood resilience, innovation and local participation.
