Georges Azangue
Georges Azangue is a Cameroonian Water, Forestry and Wildlife Engineer and protected-area manager with over fifteen years of experience in wildlife conservation, forest management and public-sector environmental governance. He currently serves as Conservator of Boumba Bek National Park under Cameroon’s Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife (MINFOF). As Government Authority Representative and Strategic Assistant, he connects our conservation programmes with park-management priorities, government procedures, and the needs of communities living around protected areas. Georges has spent more than twelve years leading protected areas across Cameroon. Before taking up leadership of Boumba Bek National Park in 2022, he served as Conservator of the Kagwéné Gorilla Sanctuary and the Lake Ossa Wildlife Reserve. Across these assignments he has coordinated anti-poaching operations, supervised eco-guard and field teams, guided ecological monitoring, and strengthened outreach and collaboration with neighbouring communities. Earlier in his career he worked as a Technical Officer in MINFOF’s Directorate of Wildlife and Protected Areas, compiling data on international wildlife trade and contributing to Cameroon’s annual reporting to CITES. He also held forest-harvesting and management positions in the private sector, overseeing forestry operations, reforestation, regulatory compliance and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification procedures. He holds an Engineering Degree in Water, Forestry and Wildlife from the University of Dschang, a complementary Master’s degree in the management of animal and plant resources in tropical environments from the University of Liège, and a University Diploma in Protected Area Management from Université Senghor. His technical skills include wildlife monitoring, patrol planning, GPS use, and GIS-based analysis using QGIS, MapInfo and MapSource. At Biodiversity Action, Georges brings practical field leadership, institutional knowledge and a strong understanding of protected-area governance — providing strategic support for stakeholder engagement, field planning and coordination with public authorities, so that conservation initiatives in the Boumba Bek landscape are practical, collaborative and aligned with national conservation priorities.
